Holland Animation Film Festival
Holland Animation Film Festival (HAFF) is an annual event which turns the city of Utrecht into an animation wonderland. The festival brings high-quality animation film from different countries to the attention of a wider audience.
Three reasons why Arts Holland recommends this:
#1 The festival was founded in 1985 and has been an annual event since 2009. The festival features superb Dutch and international animation films and functions as a platform for animation professionals and new talent to gain inspiration and to be able to connect with other professionals and enthusiasts.
HAFF promotes animation as an accessible form of expression, something that everyone is surrounded with in their everyday lives: cartoons, music videos, special effects for movies, motion graphics on TV, visual art, performances, games, web design and mobile telephone applications all consist of animated art.
#2 HAFF highlights the latest developments in the field of animation and brings to the spotlight the works of new talent. The main programme sections are The Cutting Edge and the competitions. The Cutting Edge presents the exciting correlations within film, fine art, games and the internet. HAFF also presents retrospectives, theme programmes and special activities like talk shows, masterclasses and lectures aside from the main programmes.
#3 Some highlights of the previous editions include a unique historic overview of animated propaganda films from the former USSR; spotlights on highly-imaginative Japanese, Korean and Chinese animation; and "Intra Muros", an animated installation on the windows of Utrecht city hall.
